ICWF "Off The Ropes" Report with Peter Hartin – July 6th, 2008 Edition
Welcome to the third interview edition of ICWF "Off the Ropes" Report. My guest for this interview is none other than Kenny Kash. I’d like to start by thanking Kenny for taking the time out of his busy schedule to answer the questions I have made for him. To start off Kenny I’d like to know just how you got interested in professional wrestling?
Kenny: I watched it for years, ever since I can remember. The point that got me on was watching a HALO show and watching Ricky Morton from the Rock 'n Roll Express. I've always watched him growing up and had talked to him after the match. After that the rest was history. I also give a lot of credit to Joey Silvia. He made everything look so easy and so good that I wanted to do what he was doing. He has to be my favorite Indy wrestler.
I’m sure talking to him after the match started you off on your journey to become a professional wrestler. However the fans want to know exactly how long its been since you began your career in the business?
Kenny: I've been in the business roughly around a year and a half.
Well I’m sure that throughout that year and a half you’ve had a good amount of matches whether they were singles or tag team matches. Speaking of tag teams, while you were in CRASH you formed a tag team with Chris Phoenix called Hood City Soldjas. Since forming the Hood City Soldjas you’ve captured numerous wins. How do you feel about Chris as your tag team partner?
Kenny: Chris Phoenix has a lot of potential. I think he can go a long way in the business because the thing he cares about most is the fans. One thing about him, you always know he'll leave everything in that ring once he goes through those curtains. Plus both of us are still learning so it's great to be able to progress at the same time. He is a great guy, and I always can depend on him for an honest answer about matches or anything.
I’m sure its great to have someone else by your side that’s always providing advice and to train with. The two of you have had some amazing tag team matches in CRASH but I want to know which tag team moment from CRASH was your favorite and why?
Kenny: My favorite tag team moment has to be when we won the tag titles. I could see the passion in Chris eyes the moment we won and hearing the crowd’s reaction was priceless. They really made the moment so much more special.
Winning the tag team titles would definitely be a favorite moment of yours. Recently there have been comments about your ego being a little too big which happens to be annoying some people. What is your opinion on this?
Kenny: I've always had an ego. But you have to realize what I've been through. I've never been the biggest guy in anything I do via football, basketball, or even wrestling and I've always been successful. It's more like confidence, a lot of confidence. As a matter of fact, I do have somewhat of an ego. Every time I go out to the ring I tell myself I am the best in the business. That I'll have the best match anyone has ever seen. If I come across in a way that annoys anyone I apologize, but I was always brought up that in anything you do, don't doubt yourself, and I will never doubt anything because I can do anything.
There’s no doubt that having confidence is a plus when competing or participating in anything. Another thing that could relate to never doubting is the old HBK t-shirt that had, "If you believe you will achieve" on the back. A while back you made some comments about Valek based off of other people’s opinions. Do you have any evidence of what has been said about Valek is true or are you listening to what other idiots have said?
Kenny: I personally don't know Valek. I can only go by what I hear. If one person tells me something I think nothing of it. But when eight or nine people tell me the same thing then well it's kind of believable. But for me to judge him I honestly can't because like I said, I’ve never met the guy. Maybe he was like people said and then he changed. Maybe he's still like he was according to what people say. But all I can go off of is what people that are really close to me say. It is what it is though.
I would have to say that with me knowing Valek for about 14 months this August I’d have to say I could never go along with what others say about him. For me I go by how long I’ve known someone, the person I’ve known longer and trust more I usually lean towards believing them more. Fans want to know if you would ever consider working for the ICWF despite the feud between CRASH and ICWF?
Kenny: Honestly, I have beef with no one. I am neutral when it comes to stuff like that. I have nothing to do with the feud; I’m just a wrestler. I'll work for any promotion if their intentions are right and they love the business. If you are trying to put on a good show then I am definitely down with that. If ICWF or APWA or anybody else wants to book me then let's do it.
I’m sure plenty of other promotions would love to book you and allow their fans to experience your style of wrestling. I’m also sure they would book the Hood City Soldjas as well. Speaking of the Hood City Soldjas they are a tag team that’s new to the business. Another tag team that’s been around for longer, the Underworld was a dominant tag team in Indy promotions. Do you think the Hood City Soldjas could step up to the plate and stand toe-to-toe with the Underworld?
Kenny: Oh we can, and if it comes down to it we will. Nothing lasts forever and Hood City Soldjas are taking over lol. Watch your back Underworld haha.
I’m sure that match would go down in the history books as a competitive battle between a new tag team and an undisputed tag team. Fans want to know…if you were offered both a TNA contract and a WWE contract, which would you choose and why?
Kenny: I would probably choose TNA. Just because I know they can use my abilities more than WWE. WWE is based more on size and strength, me...I’m a speed guy who likes to be a high-flyer. But if ROH was on the table, I’d much rather go to that. Fast paced and constant action, now that's my style. I want to have wrestling matches; WWE is more of a storyline drama fest. People don't want to see a marriage; they want to see two guys in the ring performing. That's why I’d much rather do TNA or ROH.
TNA and ROH are definitely a better choice as far as traveling is concerned. WWE has somewhat of a more rough schedule. I know that you certainly have watched WWE while you were growing up. Who were your favorite wrestlers growing up?
Kenny: I had too many favorites lol. Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels...Ric Flair!!! But my favorite wrestler growing up was Tully Blanchard. He was the man, had the girls, the money and could piss anybody off on any given day. He wasn't the biggest, but he was a cocky son of a b*tch. I loved how he'd just get under people's skin because he just thought he was better than everyone. "Everybody wants money", I still remember that song haha.
I share some of the favorites with you as well. Some of my main ones are the Hardy Boyz, Eddie Guerrero, Ric Flair and Chris Benoit. It’s good to know that you had plenty of inspiration to get your career started and I wish you luck with future bookings.
Kenny: Thank You.
Don’t forget fans to once again look forward to the two more in-depth and personal interviews. You have yet to hear from Ms. TnT and the current ICWF NC Heavyweight Champion, Valek.
